"Hello! I'm Mrs Glasson..."

Only outstanding English teachers make outstanding English tutors.

I am a former grammar school child, parent, and teacher. I have been an English teacher for over 30 years. My students consistently achieve some of the best results - GCSE, A Level, and 11+ - in the country. I was an 11+ examiner, and I have written and marked entrance exams for independent schools.

Honestly, can you think of anyone better qualified to guide you and your child along the 11+ journey? Wouldn't you like your child to benefit from my expertise? Try the free lessons and enrol in one of my acclaimed 11+ classes. Try my mock tests. No one knows the selective standard like I do. How can you, unless you have taught at a grammar school?

Therefore, only MY tests can prepare your child for the REAL exams - by assessment, but also with detailed feedback in the form of outstanding English lessons!

ENGLISH. For the 11+, for school, for home, FOR LIFE!

I am the proud mother of two stellar English students. My son is a Cambridge graduate. I taught him ‘A’ Level English Literature. English is amazing! It holds the keys to the world around us and to the realms of our imagination.  It is about who we are and who we can become. English is more than an  exam subject. It is not just about “learning things”. It’s about life!   Maya Glasson.

Sutton Grammar School
Mrs Maya Glasson
Teacher of English
2008 - 2020

Kind words from my former employer...

Maya Glasson has been an SGS stalwart and a good friend during her twelve years of teaching at Sutton Grammar school. From her first day, initially as a part time English teacher skilfully juggling work while raising her two children, Maya has been an outstanding member of the English team.

Maya is passionate about English Literature -  especially the works of Orwell, Dickens, Chaucer and Shakespeare - often placing well chosen quotations around her classroom for the edification of others.

Pleasingly, Maya’s focus on raising vocabulary and teaching to the assessment objectives contributed to many excellent results for the exam classes (on one occasion producing nineteen As Level A Grades from a class of twenty students).

Although she enjoys pushing the brightest to achieve their best (with her own children attending top universities) Maya’s expertise with weaker students - something that she nurtured during her time at Greenshaw High School and as an EFL teacher in Japan - meant that she was very good at turning things around for underperforming students. Often, such students would achieve A* for GCSE English in spite of much lower  target grades.

Of course, like all of the school’s staff, Maya has frequently supported extra-curricular activities. She would attend many English outings and theatre trips, and she greatly enjoyed organising and competing in ‘Staff Cross County’ (an annual fundraiser for local charities). She will be sorely missed.
